We are in the midst of the 12 days of Christmas, which begin on Christmas day and end with Epiphany (January 6). Here is a new version of the famous song for all of my clergy colleagues trying to get a little rest and then lead God’s people into a new year. (Fortunately, this is not an autobiographical account of my Christmas break.)
On the 1st day of Christmas my dear church gave to me,
a sweet member in the IC(U).
On the 2nd day of Christmas my dear church gave to me,
two texted plights,
and a sweet member in the IC(U).
. . .
On the 12th day of Christmas my dear church gave to me,
twelve deacons drinking,
eleven protests pending,
ten “Lord have mercy”s,
nine ladies’ baking,
eight (hundred) emails waiting,
seven committees meeting,
six folks complaining,
five passive-aggressive dings,
four vacation calls,
three frozen pipes,
two texted plights,
and a sweet member in the IC(U).
