This week, the disciple we are focusing on is Thomas. It is interesting to note his three speaking parts in the Gospel of John. In chapter 11, when Jesus suggests they go to back to Judea the disciples remind him that the last time he was there people tried to stone him. When he insists on going anyway, it is Thomas who says, “Well, let’s all go, then, so we can die with him.” And of course there is the famous “doubting Thomas” scene in John 20. And in between is this little gem from John 14:5-6 , which we are using for our call to worship:
Jesus told his disciples: “You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Thomas said, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
Jesus says:
I am the way, the truth, and the life.
Let us come now to God through Christ Jesus.
Blessings to you in your work and worship this week.
