Advent in July!

Last week I attended the national Mennonite Church USA convention in Kansas City. Part-way through the week, one of the MennoMedia staff excitedly told me that they had sold out of all the copies they brought of Expecting Emmanuel! Which seems exciting until you know that they only brought two copies.

I get it, though. July isn’t really the time most people are thinking about Christmas. But it is not to early to start planning for the Advent season. Whether you are considering material for congregational worship, small group study, or individual devotions, I hope you will consider exploring Expecting Emmanuel.

As encouragement, I am giving away one signed copy of the book and two free digital downloads of the art and worship material from the book. To enter the drawing for these give-aways, simply comment below (or on the Spacious Faith Facebook page) to let us know how you might like to use Expecting Emmanuel this upcoming Advent season. I will draw the three winners on July 25. (Please note: Your comment will come to me for review before it shows up on the site.)

As a help for those using Expecting Emmanuel this year, I have added a page to this web site where you can find resources that are not included in the book. There is not a lot there now, but I will continue to add material as the Advent season approaches. For those who used the book last year, I would love for you to share any supplemental resources that you created as well!

So happy Advent in July, friends! Remember to comment below for a chance to win.

  1. Tried to log in to say I’m interested in “Expecting Emannuel” but was not able – didn’t recognize my email address. I lead a weekly prayer/meditation group called “Sacred Space” and would like to use some of the materials with this group.

  2. Joanna, I love Advent, the preparation of getting ready for Christmas. The resources would help me personally to get ready and would also be used fir a small group study and for worship. Blessings. Barbara

  3. I am interested in, “Expecting Emmanuel,” for my personal edification and also for a small group study at my church.

    • Hello, Gayle! You won the drawing for a copy of the book. I’m checking in here since I haven’t heard a response to the email I sent last month. If you send me your mailing address I can get the book in the mail to you next week! (You can use the contact form on this website.)

  4. I certainly would use it for my own meditation and spiritual growth and if I’m asked to lead worship during the advent season.
