I’m trying something new for our call to worship this week. It’s kind of a do-it-ourselves call to worship. During the prelude, I will invite people to write a type of animal on a whiteboard at the front of the church. Then I will use these animals in the call to worship. (And Peace Mennonite folks, no skipping church Sunday because you think this sounds weird. It will be fun. I promise.)

This is what the call to worship looks like in the bulletin:

Let everything that breathes praise God!
Praise God!
The [animals] in their [sounds/actions]
Praise God!
. . .
We humans, in our worship,
Praise God!
Let everything that breathes
Praise God!

And this is what it might sound like:

Let everything that breathes praise God!
Praise God!
The dogs in their barking,
Praise God!
The cats in their meowing,
Praise God!
The snakes in their slithering,
Praise God!
The kangaroos in their hopping,
Praise God!
The horses in their neighing,
Praise God!
The birds in their chirping,
Praise God!
We humans, in our worship,
Praise God!
Let everything that breathes
Praise God!

Post-worship note: This was a really fun call to worship. I highly recommend it for any group that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Just be prepared for difficult animals like fennec fox and sloths and hippopotamus.
